Health & Safety Policy

As an employer you must have a Health and Safety Policy under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. If you have five or more employees, this must be in writing.

The Health and Safety Policy sets out your general approach and objectives, and the arrangements you’ve put in place to manage Occupational Health and Safety. It’s a unique document outlining who does what, when they do it and how they do it.

A policy is only effective if acted upon and followed by you and your employees.

Health & Safety Audit

An audit is a review to confirm that your company is following regulations, processes or rules. It focuses on some or all aspects of Health and Safety.

The first step in tackling your Health and Safety responsibilities is having a Health and Safety audit to show you where you can improve and where your potential liabilities lie. We’ll carry out an initial audit at your premises, write a full report and create an action plan.

Incident / Accident Investigation

We can assist with an effective investigation requiring a methodical, structured approach and use findings to form the basis of an action plan. This will make accidents or incidents less likely to happen again and to improve your overall risk management.

Findings will also point to areas of your risk assessments that need to be reviewed.

ISO Audits

We work with a consultancy who specialise in ISO standards, BRC and associated schemes. The company is formed from a network of auditors with experience and expertise in many fields including medical devices, chemical industries, engineering, construction, plastics, retail and general manufacturing. Previously employed by the Certification Bodies mentioned above and still working within this field as qualified Lead Auditors, we believe this puts us in a prime position to assist you with any management system needs you may have.

We offer Internal Audit Evaluation on ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

An Internal Audit assesses the effectiveness of  your Management Systems, and overall performance. This demonstrates compliance with your planned arrangements and how your implement and maintain processes.

Fire Risk Assessment

Fire safety is an essential component of workplace occupational health and safety. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires businesses with five or more employees to have a written fire risk assessment for their premises. In addition to this, local authorities and insurance companies can also stipulate that businesses have a written fire risk assessment. Craven Safety Services can offer our expertise in this area and provide your business with a fire risk assessment which will detail:

Identification of the sources of ignition, fuel and oxygen
The mitigation of fire and effects
Raising the alarm
Risks to occupants
Fire training
Management of fire safety
An action plan with recommendations on how to improve fire safety

Risk Assessments and Method Statements

You need to protect your business with risk assessments and method statements covering the workplace. You also need these to comply with the law. They help you focus on important workplace risks – the ones which can cause real harm.

In many instances, straightforward measures can readily control these risks.

The law does not expect you to eliminate all risk but requires you to protect people as far as is ‘reasonably practicable’.

You need to write risk assessments and Method Statements in house but we can advise and assist with these including using templates.

Prices from £300 + VAT for a set of RAMS, or individual assessments from £50.

COSHH Assessments

People’s health can be put at risk using chemicals or other hazardous substances at work.  The law requires you as an employer to control exposure to hazardous substances to prevent ill health.

By complying with the Regulations you’ll protect anyone who may be exposed.  We can help with this by carrying out COSHH assessments on all chemicals used within your business.

Priced individually for customers not taking a monthly support package.

Price: £25 + VAT per COSHH assessment.

Site Files

We can provide a site file to manage Health and Safety on your construction site. This will include a Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan. We’ll also provide Risk Assessments and Method Statements for the work you’re doing plus a full set of templates covering site work.

The Construction Phase Plan is designed to assist the principal contractor in the day-to-day management of all Health and Safety issues throughout the construction process.

We can also carry out site inspections for you – from £350 + VAT, dependent on distance, plus mileage at 45p per mile.
