Outline: To facilitate the safe use of ladders, steps and staging in compliance with best practice and legal requirements.
Objectives: Upon completion of this course delegates will be able to quantify the effects of a fall from height by gaining an understanding of the implications on themselves and for their employer. They will also have gained an appreciation for the range of Regulations and the requirements that are enforced with regard to the use of ladders, stepladders and portable staging, whilst having gained knowledge of safe ladder staging, correct PPE application and accident prevention
1. Understand the effects of fall from height and implications for the employer
2. Appreciate the legal position of the employee and the employer
3. Appreciate the range of Regulations and the requirements that are enforced with regard to the use of ladders, stepladders and portable staging
4. Understand the term ‘reasonably practicable’.
5. Appreciate employee and employer responsibility under Civil Law
6. Understand how accidents with ladders, stepladders and staging are caused
7. Appreciate the requirements for PPE
8. Select the right ladder, stepladder or staging for the job
9. Appreciate the range of ladder accessories
10. Inspect a ladder, stepladder and portable staging correctly before use
11. Install and use a ladder, stepladder and portable staging correctly
12. Understand appropriate methods for storing ladders and stepladders
