Asbestos Awareness (Half Day)

About the course

On Completion of the Course delegates will be able to;

1. Understand the legal implications of work involving exposure to asbestos.

2. Appreciate the different types of asbestos and describe the main effects on human health.

3. Appreciate the different levels of survey conducted to establish the management requirements for asbestos on the Company site.

4. Recognise the types of product and materials that could contain asbestos.

5. Understand the types of activity that causes of the release of asbestos fibres into the

6. Understand the importance of assessing the risk for each job.

7. Understand and apply the necessary precautionary measures including PPE when conducting work that exposes the employee to asbestos.

The Hazards of Asbestos
Different types – Chrysotile, Amosite, Crosidolyte, Amopholite, Tremolite, Hazard of respiration of airborne fibres, effects on respiratory system.

The Survey
Overview of types 1, 2 and 3 and application.

Assessing the risk
What to do on discovering asbestos. Demolition work. Maintenance activities. Do’s and don’ts when work involves exposure to asbestos.

Removal of asbestos
Storing asbestos cement prior to removal. The Approved asbestos removal contractor. Managing the Contactor. Management and Risk control Limitations of damping down. PPE and RPE.

Health Surveillance
The need for respiratory system checks for those exposed to asbestos
