About the course

Aim: To provide the theoretical and practical knowledge to safely operate a pallet truck.

Duration: Novice Operator – 1 day
Ratio: 3 Operators: 1 Instructor : 1 Machine
Note: Course durations may need to be extended if the machine used during basic training has contra steering.

What’s Covered?

The course will comprise theoretical and practical instruction covering the following:

  • Their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974, PUWER 98 & LOLER 98
  • Operators Safety Code
  • Battery maintenance and charging procedures.
  • Pre-shift checks
  • Factors affecting stability
  • Motive controls
  • Hydraulic controls
  • Manoeuvring in open and confined areas
Learning Objectives

On completion of training the candidate will be able to:

  • Operate the truck safely and efficiently in open and confined areas
  • Carry out pre-use checks to ensure the equipment is in a safe condition
  • Carry out battery maintenance and charging procedures

On completion of training candidates will have a theoretical understanding of the following:
